#1. Hi Mariano, thank you for giving us this opportunity. Would you like to tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
Thanks to you for this interview!
I like to describe myself as an entrepreneur, a family man devoted to my children and my wife Eleonora. I am an influencer, awarded by Forbes and GQ as the most influential of male figures in the world and founder of three brands: Nohow, Hairbello and MDV Collection.
I work as an ambassador for some brands, first of all Dolce & Gabbana and as an actor. But above all I consider myself a happy person, grateful and with many dreams still to be realized.
#2. How was your career as a fashion influencer and then entrepreneur born?
At eighteen years I left Perugia to pursue the career I dreamed of. I lived in London for a year working as a model, and then in New York to study acting at the NYFA (New York Film Academy). In the United States there were many guys who photographed each other, some of them posted the images on the web, but they were rarely professionals. None of them would have opened a corner on the web to describe their style.
My idea was born from there; I have chosen to experiment. I started my blog where I gave random advices in terms of fashion and trends, expressing my personal taste. Incredible but true, it had a success that not even I would have expected. Back in Italy, I continued my professional path, which was a real rise.
#3. You are one of the most loved and well-known influencers: how do you deal with this notoriety?
Taking responsibility for the media coverage I have, thus trying to be a good example, a source of inspiration for those who follow me, a healthy bearer of genuine principles. I like to keep my feet on the ground and remember where I started from.
#4. Your work makes you travel a lot: is there any journey that you carry in your heart that has left you something special?
Mexico, a destination reached several times together with my family. The emotions it offers are indescribable and the scenarios are very different from each other: Caribbean coasts and nature alternate with vibrant colonial cities. As a lover of good food, I cannot fail to mention Mexican cuisine, an authentic explosion of colors and flavors (even very spicy!). From north to south, the culinary specialties vary and you want to taste everything. The locals are cheerful and welcoming and, finally, history and culture complete the richness of this country.
However, I do not deny that Italy remains the country I prefer. The quality of life, the culinary products, the good wine…are all things that make me proud to be Italian. My fixed summer destination where I go every summer is Sardinia, a wonderful land to live with my family.
#5. Within Nohow you have a very strong and united team, #nohowsquad: how important do you think this aspect is? Do you think it is a plus for your business?
Without a doubt it is a plus! An added value that I could never give up. I am a true fan of teamwork, as an amplification of good results. The team behind Nohow is an incredible strength. Being able to trust them is invaluable; sharing the joys of work with my team is truly rewarding.
#6. What are your main sources of inspiration for your line?
Definitely the attitude to street style and travel around the world: they enrich me and allow me to get in touch with different cultures and new styles. I love to browse, observe, analyze new trends .. and then adapt them to my taste.
#7. How would you define your style?
A mix of elegance and comfort. I like to combine the typically Italian style with details that can make the difference in the look and make it more jaunty, such as linen shirts and stylish accessories. I love being a trend setter: experimenting, discovering and browsing new clothes, without ever losing the refinement of Made in Italy.
#8. Is there any item of clothing or accessory that can never be missing from your outfit?
I am a lover of accessories, first of all rings, an evergreen never banal that enriches the outfit. Among the items always present in my wardrobe or in my travel suitcase, there are a white shirt, a pair of denim jeans and Nohow sneakers.
#9. You have built your business in Umbria, in the heart of Italy: in your experience, how important is Made in Italy abroad? Is it still an added value?
I was born and raised in the Umbrian hills and I love this region. And yes, I have decided to invest in my land, the beating heart of Italy. Made in Italy is a true trademark, a passe-partout that identifies us in terms of quality and authenticity. Foreigners love this concept and it is undoubtedly an added value if conveyed in the correct way.
#10. What is the aspect you like the most about your entire business?
The fact that I do dynamic, versatile work, always on the move. And this leads me to live “with my nose up”, as my son Leone would say. Browsing and discovering. I am a living brainstorming of ideas and projects. And I couldn’t be happier!
